Welcome to Year 5. We have really enjoyed learning with the children and cannot wait to see where the rest of the year takes us. We get to learn lots of new skills during Year 5 in both core and foundation subjects, along with providing the opportunities for school trips. We have 3 main lessons in the morning and one lesson in the afternoon, alongside two basic skills sessions everyday. See below for additional information in regards to life in Year 5.
The Year 5 school day begins at 8:55am and ends at 3:15pm, Monday – Friday.
Year 5 Staff will collect the children each morning at 8.50am. If parents/carers wish to discuss any matters they can use the class email which is Year5MBA@e-act.org.uk. There is a mid-morning break from 10:30 -10:45am, and a lunch break from 12:45 – 1:30pm.
Our curriculum map and weekly timetable can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
PE takes place every Tuesday and Friday: Could you please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school during the above days. It is advised that your child has their kit with them every day so that they can take part in any sporting activities that occur throughout the week. PE outdoors will be subject to weather conditions during the colder months. During the Summer term we take part in football coaching lessons, provided by the coaches from Aston Villa Football Club. Class teachers will inform you if this will change the PE day.
Currently we will be issuing reading books through Active Learning due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please log in daily to read the books allocated.
Your child will be provided with a reading diary and reading book for them to take home and share with parents/carers. Please can you hear your child read every night and write a comment about what they have read. Reading diaries should be in school every day.
Weekly homework is sent out every Friday and is due back into school on the following Wednesday. Please make sure this is completed and handed in the following Monday. Spellings are set every week for a test on the following Friday. Homework will be set and handed in using your child’s log in details for Google Classroom.
We have elected some of our children in Year 5 to represent us in different ways within our school. They each help to provide a voice for Year 5 and represent our class extremely well.
We have representatives for the following:
- School Councillors
- Unicef Ambassadors
- House Captains/Vice Captains
- Safeguarding Ambassador
- E-Safety Ambassador
These currently are able to take place due to Covid-19 restrictions but we will contact you when this changes.
Each half term in Year 5 we will invite you to join us for a Parent Workshop. Every workshop will focus on the learning that has happened during the current half term. There are other workshops that occur throughout the year which you will be notified about at least a week before. There will also be three reading breakfasts throughout the year for you to join us to celebrate books with your child. Due to COVID-19 restrictions this may be postponed to a later date.

What we have been doing……
Year 5 have created their own pots, inspired by the Maya. They used a range of tools to create different decorative patterns. Check back in later to see what else Year 5 have been getting up to.
