Welcome to Year 5. We have really enjoyed learning with the children and cannot wait to see where the rest of the year takes us. We get to learn lots of new skills during Year 5 in both core and foundation subjects, along with providing the opportunities for school trips. See below for additional information in regards to life in Year 5.
The Year 5 school day begins at 8:55am and ends at 3:15pm, Monday – Friday.
Year 5 Staff will be out in the playground each morning at 8:50am if parents/carers wish to discuss any matters before the school day begins. There is a mid-morning break from 10:30 -10:45am, and a lunch break from 12:30 – 1.30pm.
Our curriculum map and weekly timetable can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
PE takes place every Tuesday and Friday: Could you please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school during the above days. It is advised that your child has their kit with them every day so that they can take part in any sporting activities that occur throughout the week. PE outdoors will be subject to weather conditions during the colder months. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we take part in 15 minute exercises or ‘Run A Mile’ which will require pumps or trainers to be worn.
Your child will be provided with a reading diary and reading book for them to take home and share with parents/carers. Please can you hear your child read every night and write a comment about what they have read. Reading diaries should be in school every day.
Weekly homework is sent out every Friday and is due back into school on the following Wednesday. Each Monday your child will be provided with a weekly maths Basic Skill sheet to help support their fluency in maths. Please make sure this is completed and returned to school the following Monday. Spellings are set every week for a test on the following Friday.
We have elected some of our children in Year 5 to represent us in different ways within our school. They each help to provide a voice for Year 5 and represent our class extremely well. They are:
- School Councillors – Confidence and Jacob
- Unicef Ambassadors – Olivia and Finley
Each half term in Year 5 we will invite you to join us for a Parent Workshop. Every workshop will focus on the learning that has happened during the current half term. There are other workshops that occur throughout the year which you will be notified about at least a week before. There will also be three reading breakfasts throughout the year for you to join us to celebrate books with your child.
